About
I'm not here to make
average players average.
I'm Matias Perez. I built NextGen Soccer Academy for the player who's already decided to get serious — the one who'd rather hear the truth than the easy answer.

How NextGen got built.
I grew up around the game the way most American soccer players do — chasing it. I played everywhere I could find a pitch, watched everything I could find on a screen, and showed up to every practice with the same hope: that someone was going to tell me what to actually work on. Most weeks, nobody did.
By the time I was a teenager, I had a quiet realization. The players who got better weren't the ones with more talent. They were the ones with more direction. They had someone paying attention. Someone telling them which rep mattered, which one didn't, and what the next twelve weeks were supposed to look like. The rest of us were guessing.
So I started paying attention. I studied the players I admired. I broke down their first touches frame by frame. I started training friends in a park in Knoxville, TN — un-paid, un-glamorous, just two players, a ball, and a stopwatch. The first kid I worked with made his school team the next season. He texted me a photo of his roster sheet. I still have it.
That's the moment I knew. Not the famous goal, not the trophy, not the highlight reel. A fifteen-year-old kid texting me a photo of his name on a list. That's what this is. That's why NextGen exists.
Two years in, I'm still doing the work the same way. I still write the plan around the player, not the other way around. I still measure the things that matter. I still tell players the truth when the easier thing would be to tell them what they want to hear. The program has grown — I run 1-on-1s, small groups, sport-specific strength, and player nutrition planning — but the standard hasn't changed. If anything, it's gotten higher.
Here's what I believe: most youth soccer training plateaus players because it rehearses what they already do well. Real progress lives in the uncomfortable reps — the ones you'd skip if no one was watching. My job is to be the someone watching. To set the bar where you can't quite reach it yet, then walk you across the gap.
If you're reading this and thinking, that's me — that's the kind of player I want to become, you're in the right place. Reach out. We'll talk about where you are, where you want to be, and what the work looks like in between.
Three pillars. Every session.
Position-specific
A center back's plan looks nothing like a winger's. Yours is built for the role you actually play.
Measured
Speed, agility, ball mastery — we benchmark it, then we re-test every quarter.
Honest
If something's not working, I tell you. If you're not putting in the work, I tell you that too.
Things I won't do, even if you ask.
Two years. Real reps.
